Main Title : Rest and Renewal

By Pastor Michael Magbag

Scripture:

Matthew 11:28-30
New International Version (NIV)

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Do you ever feel like you have carried so much pressure that you are bent low beneath the weight of it all? Have you carried other people’s burdens for so long that you have nothing left to give and nothing left for YOU? Are you wondering how much longer you can carry on?

We often overstretch ourselves and become exhausted - sometimes too exhausted to even enjoy the season. To be “exhausted” means to be depleted, emptied out, to have spent all your energy. Whether this is physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually, it’s a sorry state of affairs.

We all understand that our bodies need rest to recharge and renew. The mind and emotions need rest. But what about our spirit? How do we renew and build up our spirit?

There is an answer. The most powerful refreshing for our spirits comes from the Holy Spirit. Jude 20 tells us to “build yourself up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.” Paul said, “Everyone who prays in the Spirit builds himself up.”

Over and over, the New Testament speaks of renewal, refreshing, and strengthening. The life of Jesus in us can be continually renewed in the Holy Spirit. If you do not encourage your human spirit to allow the Holy Spirit to pray through you every day, you are missing one of the greatest resources God has given you.

If you have never been filled with (baptized in) the Holy Spirit and received the prayer language that allows you to pray directly to God by the power of the Holy Spirit, it is for you! This kind of praying will cause you to be built up, renewed, rested, and refreshed.

No need to be exhausted, worn out or defeated. God has the resources for your refreshing  in the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “He who is thirsty, let him come to the water and drink.”

The “water” is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Ask God to fill you today, yield your heart and your mind to Him, and begin to pray in the Spirit!
