Main Title: The Sound of Thunder

By Pastor Michael Magbag

Scripture:

Psalm 121:1-2
New International Version (NIV)
Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

A Swedish pastor by the name of Carl Bomberg was walking home from a Bible Study one night when a flash thunderstorm began. The noise was deafening. The wind was howling. The rain poured down like it does here in the tropics when it seems like the sky opens up.

It was one of those storms that Carl was walking in, but instead of feeling frightened and overwhelmed, he overlooked the gloom and doom of the weather and thought of something awe-inspiring. He wrote a song that is now sung by every Christian from all walks of life. You know it - the song is entitled “How Great Thou Art.”

Instead of being terrified by the roar of the thunder, imagine seeing and hearing God in a thunderstorm. Rather than hiding under the bed in fear, look up at the raging sky and realize that all of nature was made by God. Instead of trembling, sing the verse,

“...I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed! Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art, how great Thou art.’’

The Bible warns us not to be to quickly shaken by news, events, rumors and circumstances. Instead, the Scripture reminds us to, “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.’’ (Psalm 55:22 NIV)

Don’t you think God knows the storms of life are coming? Don’t you think He knew you had a problem in the future? The God who rules the skies of this planet and the far reaches of the universe can be trusted and worshiped. Especially DURING the storm. He is great!
