Main Title: He Restores My Soul

By Pastor Michael Magbag

Scripture:

Isaiah 59:1
New International Version (NIV)

Sin, Confession and Redemption

59 Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.

Those were the words of David in the 23rd Psalm. The shepherd provides food and water for needy sheep. In the same way, God nourishes us spiritually and emotionally. His loving care puts our minds at ease so we can rest peacefully. To be restored means to be refreshed and strengthened.

It’s interesting that those words were written by a man who had to run for his life from his enemies. He lost his first-born son to God’s judgment, and another in a rebellion. He lost his wife through the treachery of his father-in-law. He lost his best friend in a battle. And he many experienced personal failures.

Yet David wrote, “He restores my soul.”

Possibly we are looking at things all wrong. Is it possible that God is more interested in your soul’s wellbeing than He is in your circumstances?

God knows that if your soul is refreshed, nurtured, fed and watered so to speak, you can handle any of the often tragic and stressful circumstances we all face in life.

Do you allow Him to restore your soul? Do you listen for the voice of the Shepherd saying, “Come here, there’s fresh green grass, there’s clean clear still water…”

Do you allow Him to clean you and remove harmful things from you, like a shepherd does for his sheep? Do you obey as He calls you to walk in safe paths? Or do you dash off on your own, follow the crowd in a leap off a dangerous cliff, or eat and drink from unsafe sources?

The way to get through the troubles we confront is not by begging God to remove them. Troubles are inevitable as long as we live on this planet. But by allowing the Great Shepherd to lead us, nurture us, and strengthen our souls, we get through it victoriously.
