Main Title: Important and Urgent

By Pastor Michael Magbag

Scripture:

Matthew 28:19-20
New International Version (NIV)

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Some time ago, a guest preacher spoke on “urgency”. His message emphasized the meaning of ‘’urgent’’ as ‘’demanding immediate action’’. It really resonated with me.

The kinds of things which we call urgent are things like these: “You must pay your Meralco bill today or they will disconnect your electricity. PLDT just sent your telephone bill notice; either you pay or your line will be cut off. Your landlord issued the final demand for your rent; pay up or start packing.

These kinds of things demonstrate some things that are important and URGENT. They get our attention. Immediate action must be taken because neglecting them would mean grave consequences.

Jesus was never in a panic. He never hurried. He was never  harried. But he knew what it was to live in the urgent and do the important. He knew what His priorities were. He got on with what he had to do, which was always His Father’s will, and finished it.

Unfortunately, we are often the opposite. Most often than not, we are unsure of what is urgently important. We are trying to squeeze in as much as we can every day, running around attending to details, contemplating what else should be done- super busy but not involved in the importantly urgent.

Because of this, we often leave the important and urgent tasks unstarted or unfinished.

With our work in the Kingdom of God, winning souls for Him is of primary importance. It demands the utmost urgency.

If your friends, family, or co-workers die without having surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ, the Bible clearly says they will spend eternity in the torment of hell- in the unending undying fire of the devil’s final home.

Sharing the gospel is imperative. It is a must. It is urgent that you evangelize those around you. King David put this urgency in a song, “Proclaim his glory to the nations, his mighty deeds to all peoples.’’ (Psalm 96:3).

Have you witnessed lately? Have you brought someone to your care group lately? Have you brought a guest to worship lately? The winning of souls is THE MOST IMPORTANT, URGENT TASK IN THE WORLD.
