Main Title : World Evangelism

By Pastor Michael Magbag

Scripture :

Mark 16:15
New International Version (NIV)

15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

TIME magazine once had a cover story on missions. The title was "Should Christians Evangelize Muslims?"

I expected the article to be strongly opposed to evangelization. But I was surprised at their comments about the aggressive evangelization going on by Muslims. They also pointed out the problems caused by over-zealous Christians doing short term missions. (That point could have some truth.)

The one thing that is clear in my mind is that evangelization of the world is our highest priority as Christians. In Jesus’ teachings, our responsibility to those who are lost is of highest importance. Jesus came for them; we must be here for them.

When Adoniram Judson graduated from seminary, he received a call to pastor a fashionable church in Boston. Everyone congratulated him. His mother and sister rejoiced that he could live at home with them and do his life work.

But Judson shook his head. “My work is not here,” he said. “God is calling me beyond the seas. To stay here, even to serve God in His ministry, I feel would be only partial obedience, and I could not be happy in that.” Although it cost him a great struggle, he left his mother and sister to follow the heavenly call. The fashionable church in Boston still stands, rich and strong, but Judson’s churches in Burma had fifty thousand converts, and the influence of his consecrated life is felt around the world. Just one man, who was obedient to his particular call.

You may not get to “ overseas.” Shine where God puts you. Shine here and now. Do something for world evangelism your house, your office, your school.

A young man accepted for the African mission field reported at New York for “passage” on the ship to take him there, but found on further examination that his wife could not stand the climate. He was heartbroken, but he prayerfully returned to his home and determined to make all the money he could to be used in spreading the Kingdom of God over the world.

The young man took his father’s business over and developed it until it assumed vast proportions—his name was “Welch,” whose family still manufactures “grape juice.” He has given literally hundreds of thousands of dollars to the work of missions. Welch did not make if to his chosen field because of circumstances beyond his control, but undaunted he raised and gave thousands and thousands for world evangelism.

You don’t have to be a special missionary “breed” to evangelize your world. "All can go; all can give; all can pray." It's a matter of asking “How far?” or “What is the nature of our going?” To walk across the street and witness to a neighbor is "going." The cultural and geographical distance is left up to God. But all can go, and all must go.

The bottom line…Everyone must do something for world evangelism. What are you doing right now, right where you are?
