Main Title: A Live Fish
By Pastor Michael Magbag
Scripture:
Galatians 1:10
New International Version (NIV)
10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ
W.C. Fields said, “Remember, a dead fish can float downstream, but it takes a live one to swim upstream.”
Are you like the dead fish who floats or drifts downstream? Are you the one who tries to please everyone and therefore never makes a decision, never takes a stand, never asserts yourself in a positive way?
Someone else has said, “I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.”
Floating, drifting, and trying to please everyone may be signs of a lack of personal conviction. Without personal conviction we lack meaning and fulfillment in life.
The men and women who are best remembered are those who took courage, took a stand or lived by their convictions. They swam upstream, against the current.
Your life can make a difference, but that will likely not happen by accident. The possibility of making a difference in life greatly increases when we have personal convictions. You will have to go against the flow.
Convictions cost us something. Rarely can we become something of a world-changer without it costing something. To be a person of conviction may be as simple as determining to live as a Christian everywhere and all the time, regardless of the negative influence of this world’s standards.
SWIM AGAINST THE CURRENT!
