Main Title : Better Than I Deserve
By Pastor Michael Magbag
Scripture:
Ephesians 2:8-9
New International Version (NIV)
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
How should God treat you? Have you ever thought about that? If God treated you like you deserve to be treated, how would He treat you?
John Newton was a seaman who served on a slave ship. These ships traveled between Africa and America, capturing black people, chaining them to the bottom of the ship like animals and bringing them to America where they were sold. Most of them died during transit.
John Newton became a captain of one of the ships. But one day, he gave his life to Christ after hearing the gospel. That was the beginning of John Newton's ministry. He also wrote the most famous hymn in the world--"Amazing Grace".
The story behind the gospel is that the grace of God does for you what you do not deserve. If we really experienced what we deserved, our sin, rebellion and selfishness would result in God's quick and final judgment upon our lives.
Grace is about joy that cannot be explained, favor that has no reason, generosity given to someone unworthy. It’s about God loving the world that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.
Today, you may be suffering according to what you deserve. You may have done wrong, you may be living wrong. You could be in great need, your life could be a mess but you can be treated better than you deserve if you come to the grace of God. Will you make a decision to give your life to Christ today and live your life in His amazing grace!
